About The Build: Intense Cycles was founded in 1991 with the goal of creating the best mountain bikes in the world. This is certainly a lofty goal but one that is taken seriously by every member of the company. The staff is proud of their craft and in love with their sport, spending countless hours on their product and constantly finding ways to improve the ride. To that end, Intense uses its California manufacturing facility to build prototypes that go from an idea to a rideable bike in just 24 hours.
The few moments that mountain bikes don’t flood Intense employee’s brains, the members of this California-based company are ready to answer the call of the waves. Surf and mountain bike culture flow freely through the veins of Intense cycles, creating an extremely down-to-earth company that makes astonishingly beautiful race machines.
Trevor, one of our retail sales associates, grew up near the ocean and can easily identify with a company that has a hard time choosing between a wetsuit or a helmet. Whether his hands are gripping his board or his bars, Trevor appreciates a quality ride. It’s no surprise that his chosen tool for carving up single track is an Intense Carbine 275.
Trevor built up his Carbine 275 to handle anything the trail might throw at him. Longer travel in the front and rear helps to dampen anything from nasty rock gardens to requisite big air drops. The bike is fast and light due to the airy carbon fiber frame construction, making it nimble enough to whip around with ease and float up climbs. Trevor got his start riding street BMX and has consequently developed a fairly aggressive riding style on the trails. He chose a more sensible build with Shimano Zee and XT components, foreseeing that parts may need to be replaced with some regularity. That’s why he works at a bike shop after all. Trevor doesn’t just shred the gnar, he slices through it like a scalpel. To accomplish feats deserving of such eloquent analogies, he chose to build up the cockpit with a Chris King tapered headset, a Fox Racing 34 Float Fork, the Renthal Duo Stem, and an Enve DH Riser Bar. To put the power down, he chose to install an e*thirteen TRS Race enduro crankset and stuck with a single ring instead of a double to keep things simple.
Trevor has the skills to intimidate most riders, but at the end of the day, having a good time on the bike is his main priority. If you see him out on Madonna mountain, Avila ridge or any of the other local trails, chances are good his face will be plastered with a big smile. Juggling his time between work, a social life and school is not easy, but Trevor regularly pedals 80 to 100 miles a week. When he’s not out riding, or here at work, he’ll probably be hitting the books at Cal Poly. Holding a graphics certification and studying business marketing, Trevor hopes to one day put his education to to good use in the cycling industry.
