The best shifting performance in existence. This is what electronic shifting promises and Shimano Dura Ace 9070 Di2 delivers. Never has a statement been said so confidently and easily, yet had such heavy implications for our sport. When the most important races of their careers are on the line the pros require the highest quality components to make those critical shifts fast, precise and effortless. It is no wonder why the Radioshack-Nissan-Trek team was just one of five World Tour Teams to outfit their race weapons with the newest 11-speed electronic groupset. Fabian Cancellara was so eager to get his hands on it that he took part in testing before production even started.

Electronic shifting had been tried and met with repeated failure in the past, until the release of Shimano's first electronic iteration, Dura Ace 7970 Di2. Dura Ace 7970 shifting offered unparalleled precision and reliability that truly revolutionized riding a bicycle. As with all innovation, it had its own set of kinks to work out and its own following of stringent naysayers and opposition. If Dura Ace 79000 was Obi-Wan Kenobi then Shimano Dura Ace 9070 would be Luke Skywalker. Now I don't take Star Wars analogies lightly, no one should, but if ever there was a group that would defeat the dark forces of dropped chains and missed shifts it is this group and I take no shame in saying... the force is strong with this one.

Perhaps the biggest downside to the 7970 group was the portly motors that prominently bulged out of the derailleur housings. 9070 changes all that. This is most evident in the Dura Ace 9070 Rear Derailleur. The far slimmer profile also boasts a weight savings of 8 grams compared to 7970 making it light and sexy, which is just the way we like it. Oh yeah, and it also just happens to work better than anything else out there.

Instructions for wiring up your Di2 equipped bike can be found here.

*Note: If you are planning on installing the 9070 rear derailleur for use in conjunction with a 6770 front derailleur, Shimano's firmware prevents compatibility between the two.
