Product Description
Shimano Dura Ace products are nothing short of stellar. Why? Because Shimano is and always has been a leader in the cycling market. Not ever willing to jump the gun on new materials and designs, Shimano products are some of the most consistent and durable performers in the industry. That said, it's no surprise that the C24 Carbon Tubular wheels are similar to other company's offerings, yet much different in a few key areas.
At a total weight of 1245 grams (518 for the front and 727 for the rear) Shimano has managed to make what looks like a climbing wheelset and adapt it into so much more. Based on the weight and low profile rims, it's true that these wheels fly uphill. Shimano's commitment to angular contact bearings remains and thus these wheels roll incredibly smoothly and are easily serviceable. What makes C24 Tubulars more than a climbing wheelset are the super-low spoke count, the offset rear rim, widened hub shells and large axles. Each one of these characteristics produces greater stiffness and less drag for the svelte wheels. The offset rear rim is also the first we've ever seen on a carbon tubular, allowing the rear to have less spokes, more even spoke tension and thus be stronger and stiffer. On top of the angular contact bearings, Shimano builds further dependability into the wheels by using a Titanium freehub body. Probably the only wheelset under 1250 grams to use the material, titanium is much stronger than aluminum and thus doesn't deform under pedal pressure. It'll be a long time before you see any cassette cog indents and divots in this freehub shell. Aside from it's statistics, the Shimano carbon tubular rims are some of the most beautiful and exact rims we've ever seen. This is high praise, for even the mighty Zipps and Reynolds we carry come with very minor cosmetic blemishes. Not immediately visible, when you see as many wheels as we do, you notice things and the Shimanos are absolutely perfect. All that said, the Shimano Dura Ace 7850 C24 Tubular wheels are light enough for Mt. Ventoux yet stiff and fast enough for the road to Paris.
