There are certain things that Italians do better than anyone else. Creating comfort is one of them; Sidi shoes, Colnago bikes, and now Kask Helmets. Every effort has been made to make the Kask Vertigo as comfortable as possible, creating such a perfect fit that you'll forget it's there. Team Sky's helmet choice is the Kask Vertigo, and your's might be too, once you discover the details. Comfort, safety, and incredible attention to detail results in one of the finest helmets on offer—the Kask Vertigo.
When examining a Kask helmet, you immediately notice the retention system. First, you'll probably see the soft rubber pads which cradle the back of your head, which are dimpled for airflow and an even softer touch. Then you'll see that the cradle itself is hinged, which allows perfect placement of the retention system for safety and for... comfort. Adjustments to the tension can be made quickly—by pushing the thumb tabs inwards, or precisely—by using the (padded) dial.
A look at the helmets underside really shows Kask's dedication to your enjoyment. We can't recall ever seeing a helmet with such ample and advanced padding. Kask's own 3D Dry padding system is used, which places different foam at different locations in the helmet. On top of your head is a lined, double-layer foam, with a honeycomb pattern in contact with your head. Lower down the helmet, cushioning your forehead and sides of your head is a single-layer foam, also lined, with channels molded in to increase airflow. All the foam pads are antimicrobial and easily removed for washing. High end comfort continues with the safety straps; soft leatherette (an artificial leather, more hygenic and longer lasting) wherever the straps touch your skin, such as your chin and cheeks, which are channeled for airflow.
Let's not forget about the helmet's main structure itself, for that is what makes or breaks the deal! All of the typical high-end helmet features are found on the Kask Vertigo. In-mold construction for the tightest bond possible between the EPS foam liner and the hard shell. A full-wrap shell extending to the back and underside edge of the helmet for extra impact protection and durability. 20 big vents—Kask claims 24, counting the middle two as six, but thanks to their size are actually more effective than if they were broken up into six vents—open up into channels in the liner, keeping air moving across your head. Internal reinforcement structures make it possible for the helmet to maintain integrity with those two massive middle vents running nearly the length of the helmet.
