Mountain bikers are wanderers; rolling through
the hills, struggling up, charging down. Wherever
the trail takes us is where we go, and we're
happy with that. Some of us really are
vagabonds, living on friends couches as we
journey from riding spot to riding spot. Some of
us were vagabonds, and most wish they could be
roving the world. In the spirit of freedom, Dakine
offers up the Nomad hydration system. It just
might become your most valued companion as
you wander around your life.
The Nomad is slightly smaller than the humendous Apex pack, but you can still take it all with you. The same helmet flap/armor carry system lets you attach a full- face or XC helmet, and the bottom mounted, deployable armor straps secure armor until you get to the top. There's an extra zip pocket in the helmet flap lined with the same material Dakine uses in their surf packs to resist melting wax—perfect for storing chain lube away from food or tools. There's plenty of room in the main pocket for a pump, tube, CO2 systems, tire levers, tools, food, or whatever. The Nomad's main compartmrnt has two mesh zip pockets and an elastic mesh pocket to hold all your jumbly bits, and a pump pocket to keep your hand pump easily accessible. There are two side-access zipped pouches perfect for storing small items such as keys, a phone, gels, or anything you might need quickly.
Sometimes things don't go according to plan; you might get lost on the trail, or the metaphorical road of life. If you do, just reach into the spacious main compartment of the Nomad and pull out your space blanket, your dry fleece, your water purifier, and your light- anywhere matches and settle in for a night of stargazing. The point is, if you think you'll need it, the Nomad will hold it. One thing you will need is water, and lot's of it. That's why the Nomad carries Dakine's 100 oz. (3 liter) reservoir; enough water for a three-hour -plus ride, and enough innovative features to make hydration easy, like the roll-top opening which makes adding liquid or drink mix a simple, spill-free operation. Another nice touch is the new ergonomic 45° bite valve with twist-on/off leak- proof operation. Our favorite features on the reservoir are the clip that integrates with Dakine packs to keep the reservoir upright during loading, and the magnificent detachable hose, allowing you to bring just the reservoir to the sink for a fill up.The separate, zippered reservoir compartment makes it easy to fill up for a ride.
