Cervelo is a company known for their commitment to time trial bikes. It's been said that over half the bikes you'll see racing at any triathlon or TT event are Cervelo's. After looking at the stunningly beautiful and efficient P3C and P2C you'll believe in Cervelo's dedication, and after looking at the results sheet you'll want to get one. But, $4500 for the P3C and $2500 for the "affordable" P2C!? Well, just to prove they really want people out there riding TT bikes, Cervelo offers the $1650 P2 SL. 1980's conservatives would love this bike; it's a perfect example of the "Trickle Down" theory, except this time it's technology, and it's more of a flood.
Cervelo was one of the first manufacturers to use tube profiles as designed by the National Advisory Committee on Aeronautics, immediately giving their bikes an advantage. But, Cervelo engineers realized that though these shapes were the best out there, they weren't perfect for bikes. So, they developed a foil shape specific to the speeds attained on a bicycle and put it on the P3C and the P2C, their high-end bikes. Many companies would withhold this technology from their more affordable models, but you'll see this TrueAero foil shape all the way down to the P2 SL.
Next, The full-aero seat tube and post on the P2 SL have been developed specifically for this bike. The seat tube cut-out allows the rear wheel to be snugged up as tight as UCI rules allow. Smartwall2 technology in the seatpost create a ride that's as laterally stiff and vertically compliant as can be, and has the highest possible stiffness-to-weight ratio. The P2 SL also shares ICS internal cable stops for easy installation and maintenance. The Wolf TT aero carbon monocoque fork is the same found on the P2C.
This technology on this bike is pro caliber, and the price lets anyone into the game.
