YOU CAN'T RIDE YOUR BIKE EVERYWHERE. Sometimes you've got to drive a little to get a little. And what about bike vacations? You can't stuff all your buddies and their bikes in the hatchback, now can you? We've done quite a bit of traveling with bikes, and actually consider ourselves bike rack connoisseurs. Our opinion of the best? The Thule Hitch Rack Transport T2 . This is the easiest to use, most secure rack we've seen. The wheel trays will fit skinny little road tires and big, fat downhill tires equally well. The secure ratcheting arms slide easily up and down to fit any diameter wheel, and hold the bike with an iron grip.
Adjustability is a key feature of the T2 rack. The rear wheel tray is movable to accommodate any length wheelbase, and the spar tubes are movable right/left and fore/aft to make room for handlebars, saddles, pedals and clearance of the rear of the car.
The T2 will carry two bikes by itself, or four with the Two Bike Add-on.
This is an awesome rack. Super-easy to load, highly customizable and able to fit any bike, no matter what the top tube profile is. It folds up out of the way when not in use, and will tilt down to allow access to tailgates, trunks, or hatchbacks. Bikes with fenders will probably be better matched to the Thule Doubletrack or Yakima Stickup, which hold the bike by the top tube.
